Yala National Park
Located in the south of the country, Yala National Park is a very large forested grassland area with lakes and lagoons on the Indian ocean. There are a variety of different animals such as leopards, crocodiles, elephants and many others that roam free in these areas. Leopards and elephants are very prevalent and are a renowned features of this area. Peacocks and many varieties of birds are common features of this area as well. You can also see the sights of the very ancient Buddhist monastery and cave temples around this area.
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
Visit one of the world largest herds of elephants at Pinnawala, an elephant orphanage. Located at approximately 88km from Colombo.
At Pinnawala you can see baby elephants being bottle fed, herds of elephant bathing together amongst other activities. Established by the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife Conservation in 1975, Pinnawala operates to care and protect orphaned and ill elephants .
